A genetically modified organism (GMO) can be defined as an organism in which the genetic material has been altered in a way that doesn't occur naturally by mating or natural recombination. This of course doesn't automatically mean that GMOs are dangerous to the human organism or to life in general, but on the other hand there's nothing to say they're not. We believe there's a reason for the extremely slow evolution of species on this planet, and that any fast change smells of trouble.

Genetic engineering - flirting with disaster?
Now, science have been reckless before. The scientists and authorities responsible for the WWII Manhattan Project went ahead and brought their nuclear device to explode, although some believed this would bring about an enormous chain reaction that would obliterate the entire planet. The excitement of watching that first nuclear explosion may have been surpassed only by the hurry to laundry their underwear afterwards. GMOs in many ways today present us with the same kind of dilemma that faced Dr. Oppenheimer and the rest of the Manhattan Project group during the 1940's. Can we really cross our hearts and honestly say we're sure the introduction of completely new DNA sequences and molecular structures will not affect our organisms in any adverse way? What's to say we're not bringing about the end of the world by fooling around with the basic building blocks of life. We may not go out with a bang, but a whimper is just as sad a way to go.

Stop and think before it's too late.
We suggest a moratorium on GMO research and application of GMOs of every kind, while we consider what we're actually doing to ourselves. The fact that science can accomplish something, does not necessarily mean it should be done!
